From City of Shadows - a collection of police photos from early 20th century inner Sydney. Sounds a bit grim but it really is a bloody amazing book. As opposed to modern mug shots, back in the day you were bizarrely allowed to pose for your police photo resulting in, as Peter Watts says in the foreword, “fascinating and often eerily beautiful images of everyday misadventure in Sydney between 1912 and 1948”.
Good read, worth checking out.
